5 Reasons To Love Being Pregnant
There’s something super empowering about being able to say “I grew that child in my belly, I fed her and housed her and protected her for 9 months with my body, then I gave birth to her and continued to nourish her solely through breastfeeding”. It’s pretty astounding what the female body can do, and this by far is the best thing to love about being pregnant!
However, that doesn’t mean that pregnancy is all cupcakes and rainbows, as Princess Poppy would say! Our bodies can be put through the ringer with nausea, having to pee every 10 minutes, stretch marks and getting kicked repeatedly from the inside. But, aside from the obvious reasons of giving life to another human being, there are some pretty awesome benefits to being pregnant that I think deserve recognition. Read through the list below, and you might just discover that you love being pregnant too!
1. Skin problems, be gone!
I’ve suffered from psoriasis and eczema in some form since I was a kid. Pregnancy is the only time that this has cleared up 100% for me, and for those of you who suffer from this as well, you know how HUGE of a bonus this can be! Chalk it up to those lovely pregnancy hormones, many women see a remission of their psoriasis and eczema throughout their entire pregnancy, and for several months after if you decide to breastfeed. As a bonus, research has shown that breastfeeding also helps prevent your child from developing eczema, so that’s one more plus in the breastfeeding column, if you are willing and able to do so!
2. Thicker Hair
When I was pregnant with my first child, I had the thick and luxurious hair of a mermaid starting around month four! With the benefits of higher levels of estrogen during pregnancy, your hair grows faster and falls out less, so this is a great time to work on growing your hair out long if you’ve been wanting to do that! Now, if only my hair would stay as thick as it is during pregnancy all the time! To help minimize your hair loss after pregnancy, try using a wide tooth comb and taking biotin!
3. Get some relief from your allergies!
This year is especially hard on allergy sufferers, but I do not have to count myself among them for once because I am pregnant! Thank you pregnancy hormones for taking that complaint off my list for this year!
4. No Periods!
Ok, so this is an obvious one, but isn’t it just sooooooooo nice to get a break from Aunt Flow for awhile? This in itself is one major reason to love being pregnant!
5. Pregnancy Cravings
This is probably one of the biggest things that my husband loves about me during pregnancy (aside from the giant boobs, haha!). He no longer has to make any decisions regarding what we’re going to eat because it’s all dependent upon my craving whims. For my first child, I craved pears and French onion soup ALL THE TIME! I seriously couldn’t get enough of them, and now pears are one of my daughter’s favorite foods. Go figure, right? This pregnancy, it has mostly been fried rice, in all it’s various forms: pork fried rice, vegetable fried rice, pineapple fried rice, curried fried rice. Pretty much every night we know what’s going on the menu, and my daughter and my husband are both big fans of this baby’s food choices. 🙂
Each pregnancy is different, and I hope that no matter what you go through during your pregnancy, that you find some special things to love about your pregnancy experience. My first pregnancy was quite turbulent the whole way through (read about it here), and this one seems to be starting off on an easier pace *knock on wood*. My husband thinks this means that we are definitely having a boy this time around! Only time will tell, but I am determined to revel in the moment and enjoy the journey!
