How I Overcame My Infertility Problems
This is far from scientific advice and of course may not work for everyone, but these are the two things that ultimately helped me overcome my years long battle with infertility and miscarriage, and if you are struggling with these issues, they’re both things that you can start doing right away too!
Give it up to God
I know what you’re thinking: it’s a lot easier to say “give it to God” than to get out of your own head and actually let your fears and struggles go. But, in the end, this is exactly the thing that I had to do in order to overcome my infertility problems and realize my dreams of motherhood.
Now, I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with the man upstairs, or even if you have one at all. But for me, I have a hard time sleeping at night if I don’t say my prayers first, and I am constantly praying to God for guidance and help throughout my days, especially when I’m facing a problem. Because of this, it was natural that I would turn to prayer when I was experiencing the pain of infertility. I did not get my answer overnight though, and the waiting was HARD! I prayed every day literally for YEARS that I would realize my dream of becoming a mom, and when I kept getting met with disappointment, I eventually realized that maybe God had other plans for me. It was a hard pill to swallow! I had always imagined my future self having a couple of kids in tow, and I was completely heartbroken over the thought that maybe that was not the path I would follow.
Eventually, I learned to say “ok God, you know best”, and I started praying to have a happy life with my husband instead of praying for kids. Within weeks of letting go of my infertility struggles, I discovered I was pregnant! It took me sacrificing my dreams and giving my life over to God’s plan before I finally was given the gift of motherhood.
The Paleo Diet
This bit of advice is probably a lot more tangible for most people in terms of proactively doing something that they can get immediate results from. And I can honestly say it works! Every single time I have gotten pregnant, I have been on some form of the paleo diet during conception. This is not something I did on purpose however. Each time I got pregnant, I was honestly just looking to re-establish a healthier lifestyle and shave off a few pounds. The pregnancies were an unexpected, yet totally welcome, surprise! After the second time this happened, I realized there was a connection to the diet, and when my husband and I were trying to conceive this time around, there was no question about how I would do it.
The paleo diet has many different variations, but for me it means no processed foods, no sugar, limited carbs and lots of healthy protein, fruits and veggies. This is a hard diet for me to follow because I LOVE my bread, cheese, and chocolate! But it’s worth it just for the fact that you will see the pounds start falling off immediately and it’s a great way to reset your digestive system for an overall healthier way of living. Getting back to the basics of eating healthy food is definitely one of the things I attribute to my being able to get pregnant while on this diet as well. Cutting out all the crap that is in our store bought and fast food these days gives your whole body a break so it can get back to doing what it was meant to do instead of working so hard to digest all that junk. And you know what? You’ll soon find that all of the sweet and salty stuff that you used to eat now tastes TOO sweet and TOO salty, and once you’ve been on the diet for awhile, you won’t crave the bad stuff as much as you think you will. Promise!
If you do get pregnant while on this diet like I did, you’re also giving your unborn child the very best start in life by filling your body with all that good, nutritious food. It’s such a win-win all around! Just make sure you consult with your doctor and get started on your prenatal vitamins as soon as you know you are pregnant!
