10 Fabulous Ways to Use Coconut Oil for Moms!
If you’re a busy mommy like me, you like to get as many uses out of single products as you can, especially if those things can replace cleaners and things with harsh chemicals in them. I am a big fan of using coconut oil for cooking, but I also use it for a huge variety of things in my health and beauty regimen, as well as for cleaning and conditioning things around the house. Here are a few of the great ways I put coconut oil to use!
1. Helps prevent hair loss
Good grief did I ever lose a crazy amount of hair after my baby was born! Coconut oil seriously saved me from having a minor stroke after seeing the gobs of hair on my brush everyday. You can use it as a hair mask, conditioner, or hot oil treatment, whatever works best for you. Coconut oil mimics the natural oil in your scalp to condition the hair follicle and keep you from losing any more of your precious strands.
2. Eczema & psoriasis
I have suffered from some form of psoriasis since I was a kid, and the only time I really got a break from it was when I was pregnant! Afterwards, it came back with a vengeance. I tried using breast milk on it for awhile and that helped sooth my skin, but did not get rid of it. Then, I started using coconut oil, and I was amazed how well it worked for me! It got rid of the scaliness and itchiness within just a few uses and helped bring my skin back to normal.
3. Diaper rash
Ditto my love for using the oil on my kiddo’s diaper rash. She has super sensitive skin, and this is so soothing and gentle, it’s made a big difference for her skin as well.
4. Use it for scars, and to help heal owies
Coconut oil contains vitamin E and is super nourishing for your skin, so it works great to help heal fresh scars. It also contains anti-microbial properties which help battle infection in cuts and scrapes.
5. Mascara & makeup remover
If you’re like me, you don’t waste your money on expensive makeup removers, but you also don’t want to use soap on your eyes to get rid of that stubborn waterproof mascara. Coconut oil, ladies! Just put some on a washcloth and wipe your makeup away! *Bonus, it moisturizes your skin while cleaning it up, and who doesn’t love that?
6. Eyelash conditioner
While we’re on the subject of beautifying ourselves, coconut oil is a super fantastic way to condition your eyelashes. Remember how it conditions your hair and keeps it from falling out? It works the same way on your lashes, and by conditioning them, they can grow longer and fuller.
7. Removes crayon from walls!
Kids!!! Am I right? My toddler loves to color, and loves to spread that love all over the house. Fortunately, crayon comes off pretty easily by putting some coconut oil on a paper towel and using it to wash the wall (you may have to follow up with some soap and water to get the oily residue off afterwards).
8. Leather cleaner and polisher
I use coconut oil over other leather cleaners with chemicals in them, and it works so well and leaves my leather ottoman looking great!
9. Make your own “magic shell” ice cream topping
Who doesn’t love magic shell ice cream topping? Well, have you ever looked at the ingredients in that stuff? It’s made with coconut oil, and a ton of other not-so-good-for-you crap! Make your own for cheaper, with better ingredients (recipe here) and make mama happy!
10. Promotes hearth healthiness
The fats in coconut oil help convert bad cholesterol to good cholesterol, which is really just a side benefit to getting to eat it, right? Mix it in with coffee, blend it up with smoothies or mixed drinks for an extra yum factor!
As you can see, coconut oil is an excellent thing to keep stocked in your pantry, and you’ll never run out of great ways to put it to use! This is the one I like to use for my family!
